Very simple solution, if you want a document to be saved it pdf, then just download this software and you can print any word/excel/notepad to the pdf format. Here is the link:

the microsoft fixit tool DID change the security settings on t2embed.dll!!
Are you very sure there were NO deny security settings on that file prior to running the fix?
Also sure USERS have read+execute permission?

Ta, but if you read my original post you'll know that I found doPDF which did the job. I was just wondering why I had the problem as I don't like to see software crippled in any way. It seems the Fixit 50792 to counter a malware issue caused the problem as reversing it solved the problem.

I'm not sure what state it was in prior to the Fixit but reversing it seems to have cured the problem but also perhaps left me vulnerable to attack. I am not likely to need the option very much so it might be best to do the Fixit and just use doPDF anyway. It seems to do what I want and makes smaller files, not that this is that important.

Thanks again, it seems you had the right file to investigate.

Dopdf is an pdf-writer as far as I know. It doesn't create clickable links in the table of contents for example. Also it doesn't create a bookmarklist that you can display on the left in acrobatreader and use for navigation.

A pdf-file created from WORD has more info in it than simple fake print output.

It was a very simple document so you are probably right about having to look for a better solution if I do need something better. I could perhaps leave the Fixit off - I seem to be extremely lucky on not getting malware - never had any on any of my systems. I looked at cutePDF and PrimoPDF and went for the simplest one for the task required.
