Outlook 2010: the connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable

    Hi there

I got a computer from my work and changed the username, which created a new user in Windows 7 but I can live with that and move the files and so on.

The thing is that apparently by changing the name it also left the company's domain and now when I try to re-configure my account in Outlook I get the error "The connection to microsoft exchange is unavaliable..."

I would like to continue using Outlook and be able to configure my account, I've checked registries and read quite a lot of threads without success, any ideas would be more than helpful.

    Thanks in advance,

    Angela

    Not clear about the conditions...

    • Are you trying to log in remote (from a home office)?
    • Is the office behind a firewall?
    • Did the workstation access the Exchange server correctly FROM THE OFFICE or from a remote location (your home office) before adding a new account?

    Hi GEWB,
Thanks for replying:). I'm very new to this, so here goes more info.

Are you trying to log in remote (from a home office)? - yes and VPN has been turned off due to security reasons
Is the office behind a firewall? Most likely, Symantec. In my PC nothing else than avast
Did the workstation access the Exchange server correctly FROM THE OFFICE or from a remote location (your home office) before adding a new account? It worked fine last time I was in the office (couple of months ago).

Update: I tried to configure my account in a brand new notebook and it does not work either.
I also configured my account on my mobile and it works (except calendar does not sync - I still need to look at that).

Is there anything else I can do on my side? I cannot change/check any Exchange or server settings I can only do stuff in my pc and clean up any stored info in registries, etc.

Any ideas are more than welcome

    Hello Angela -

Sounds like you need to VPN into your network. Contact the system administrator to get the VPN software and settings, tokens, etc. Once you have the software, files and settings, it is simple to get set up and running.

It worked in the office because you were behind the office firewall.

I was afraid of that, the VPN is so slow that for every click I can check out 3 posts in 9gag...

But hey, thanks for replying :) and hopefully this will be solved soon.

Have a nice day (or night, depending on your time zone)

    Hello Angela -

I understand the slow connection! I also work remote (75% of the year) and need to VPN to the office. I need to run a sizable application over the VPN and transfer large or numerous files.

Good luck (and good night - my time zone).
