PastorMike, what about OneNote, Visio, Project and InfoPath? Can you please update the reg for those programs? :)
Hi There,
I had the same issue which worked for everything but publisher. Can you please advise.
Regards
UxGaurav - Sorry I don't use Visio, Project or InfoPath but here are the reg entries for OneNote OneNote.reg. In my case, OneNote was added to the default program list automatically so I didn't need to create these entries separately. (Go figure! I'm not sure why some MS programs e.g. Outlook, OneNote are added automatically and the others are not! )
For Visio, Project and InfoPath, you could probably create the default entries following the patterns / conventions used in the above reg file and this one Office 2010 Default Programs.reg easily enough. The entries that you will need are the ... Capabilities] ApplicationDescription one (though its contents are not critical - you could enter your own description for the program) and the ... Capabilities\FileAssociations] entries - one for each file extension (these should correspond with the entries in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT i.e. match the key name and default description for these.)
Hope this helps

wackowatty, the Office14 reg file I provided (Office 2010 Default Programs.reg) includes entries for Publisher and should have added it to the default programs list. I'm not sure whether you used the latest version of this reg file (the one attached in this post) or the first one that I posted. You could try running this one and see whether it fixes the issue. If that doesn't work you could do a repair install or an uninstall / reinstall of publisher and see whether that fixes things.
I'll be glad to help further if I can.

Hi PastorMike,
Thanks so much for the registry entries!. I had the same problem with Excel and it refused to open. This worked perfectly!
Hey PastorMike,
I'd just like to add my thanks too. I knew there'd be a registry fix and was hoping there was someone out there good enough to put it together. You're a star!
Cheers,
Jeebz :)
Thanks, it worked. I have spent so much time trying to fix the issue but nothing worked.
thank you.
Can someone please post the directions to update the reg entries again? The link posted earlier in the thread leads me to an invalid location.
Also - will this work for Office 2016?
My issue is that I can't see Excel or Word 2016 in my default program list. It says "Word 2016" but the Icon is wrong and the program is not the right one... If I double click on a word file to open, it prompts me to save it every time. However, if I open word and open the file from the program, it opens just fine. Not horrible, but really annoying.
Hi Spartan63, welcome to the Forum.
How did you install Office 2016. Did you install it as the whole Office suite?.
On my Office 2013, the Office programs listed in Default Programs shows all the Office programs, for example Word (Desktop), Excel (Desktop), Outlook (Desktop) etc. & the icons are correct for each one.
Have you clicked on "Set this program as default".
Then click on "Choose defaults for this program". This should then show you a list of all the programs associated with Word.
Created an account just so i could download this .reg file. Worked a dream on my Office 2010. Many Thanks!
