For this first version of Office Web Applications--which may or may not be the final name--Microsoft is providing Web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

All sounds good. I love the Office 2007 ribbon, but I'm a bit skeptic about the web applications... pointless? Because you'd have to have it installed on your computer to be able to use the web applications (or people would just use web) and not every computer would have it installed, meaning you'd have to do it on a computer with it installed, but if you do you might aswell just use the desktop based one.

    Unless I've miss-read something, don't you agree?

Not necessarily - M$ may set it up so that you'd buy a license to use the online and then you could use it from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection.

I already use Google Apps, and it is free since I host my domain there, but it is relatively easy to use, if a bit cumbersome in terms of lack of major features, bells and whistles.
