Unable to install Office 2010 Pro Plus

    Hi,

I am new to these forums.

Working in a higher education establishment I am entitled to download and install a work-at-home version of Microsoft Office 2010 (32-bit). However, this version is not supported by our IT department so I am unable to seek help for the installation of this software.

I wish to use this version of Office to explore the enhanced accessibility options whilst researching disability support.

Using a VPN connection and Internet Explorer 9 my first download (ISO file mounted on a Virtual Clone Drive) resulted in a rejected installation with the following error:

    Office12Setup
    {10140000-0F00-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
    14.0.4755.1000
    X
    DuplicateDefinition
    Access.en-us\setup.xml
    X
    X

A second ISO download on my main PC, again using VPN and IE9, extracted onto a USB drive wouldn't install due to the following error:

D:\ProPlus.WW\OSETUP.DLL digital signature does not validate or is not present.

There is no other instance of MS Office on this PC, only OpenOffice.org Writer. The OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and I have Microsoft Security Essentials running in the background.
Running Fixit had no noticeable effect.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

have you tried burning the ISO image to dvd disc? then run the setup from the dvd disc.
Also have you switched off the virus scanner while the install is in progress? this may cause the install to abort.

    Hi John

    Thanks for the reply.

I burnt copies of both files to disc with ImgBurn, which when run with MSE temporarily disabled replicated the errors detailed above.

This led me to believe that the downloads were corrupt.

Next step was to access the download files using VPN and Firefox (11.0). I opted to run rather than save the download, mounted with the virtual DVD drive.

I am pleased to advise that Office Pro Plus 2010 installed without error, activated and is now patched with SP1 and 27 updates.

For information I am uncertain whether it was Internet Explorer 9, or specifically the 64-bit edition that I have installed, the culprit.

I, too, encountered the mysterious "Office12Setup", "Problem 04: DuplicateDefinition", "setup could not be completed", after downloading a legitimate .ISO of Office 2010 w/sp1. Googled and found some ridiculous ideas, then stumbled onto this post. Corrupt download--why didn't I think of that? Sure enough, after re-downloading the .ISO, installation completed without issue. I'm posting a reply to this ancient thread so the search terms may be found by the next poor fool.
