Need to reinstall Outlook 2010 and use previous .pst file

I had to do a Windows repair install on my desktop. All files are still intact; however, Outlook 2010 is asking to set up from scratch. I have the old .pst file. How do I go about setting up Outlook to use the saved .pst without creating a new one? I have searched online but have had no luck. While the old computer was being reset, I installed Outlook onto laptop and could merge the old and new .pst files but the calendars, contacts, and rules did not migrate over. I would like to avoid this problem on the desktop computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,

you can do simply by export and import option in Outlook 2010. :Export Outlook items to an Outlook Data File (.pst) - Outlook - Office.com

just copy the pst and keep in a storage device to transfer it on the other computer file location where outlook creates a folder , then just import it from the outlook and it will read the pst and all the mail you have on the pst.

Thanks for your response. However, I have tried this on the laptop and it did not work as I expected. In addition to my email account I added, there is a set of folders on the left titled "Outlook Data". Sometimes sent mail goes in here and sometimes in the email account set of folders. In addition, since it is a gmail account, yet another subheading is created under the email account folders with more sent, spam, trash, etc. folders. So many folders! Aagghh!! Any way around this? In addition, when I follow online instructions, everything I read states that a new account creates pst file into folder path with Documents/Outlook. But when I add email account, an Outlook Data account is created under the above path AND an email account is created under the default path Users\Owner\App Data\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. I am using Windows 7 and according to Microsoft's site, when I set up new email account the default path should be the second option above. Please help. I have been going round and round with this issue for 4 days now. I've searched every forum.

You might have to manually add the pst as a Data File under Account Settings after setting up the new one. Outlook 2010 uses ost instead of pst but there shouldn't be a problem with migrating from pst using the import function. Also make sure that the pst file is labeled the same as your profile name (default is Outlook.pst).

You need to add your pst file to your outlook manually, visit following blog How to import Outlook Data Files (.pst) and follow the instructino to add your pst file to your outlook 2010.
