    Office 2007 Corrupting

In an earlier thread I posted an issue with the icon association for my Office 2007 files. Instead of the proper office icons for excel, word and powerpoint the files created had the same "generic" icons. When I tried to repair the installation I got a message that the installation was corrupted and it would not let me repair or even unistall Office. I ended up re-installing windows I was so frustrated trying to get the correct icons back.

After re-installing I again installed Office 2007 and my icons were back as they should be. I then began the arduous task of re-installing all my software and it all went without a hitch until I installed Batman Arkham and guess what happened .. all my Office 2007 icons reverted to being "generic" and the installion was again stated as corrupted when I tried to repair it and would not let me uninstall it again either. Does anyone have any idea why installing Batman Arkham should cause this as I am at a loss to explain. And before anyone asks both Office 2007 and Batman are GENUINE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I use Office 2007 for my job and I totally enjoy playing batman. Is this a Windows 7 issue or Batman issue?
The only thing I have not tried is uninstalling Office before installing Batman then re-installing office after Batman is installed. My computer is now back to the state just before installing Batman thanks to Acronis but I am loathe to try re-installing it as much as I enjoy the game until a solution is found.

    You should try that.

I have both programs and no problem. MSO was installed first, then Batman.

Thanks Antman .. seems strange that it is not working for me .. I have installed Batman Arkham three times now and each time I lose the icons for Office 2007. Is itpossible that because I am not installing Batman on "C" drive I am getting the issue? When I install it I get a message that it is installed then it installs something else and accroding to the message whatever it is is to make the program work .. when I check new installations it has installed direct X and NVIDIA Physx which I already had on my system.

Would installing in compatability mode or as administrator help do you think ... I just do not want to have to resurrect my system again if I can avoid it.

You could try uninstalling both. Install Batman, then install Office. I suspect the PhysX - but I really have no idea why it is doing that.

    Back Again,

After some thorough testing it seems that Batman is not the culprit and to be honest I am not sure what is. I did not have Batman installed this time and I again lost my MSO icon associations. Further investigation shows I actually lost several other MICROSOFT and LOGITECH icon associations including my Microsoft Webcam, and my logitech keyboard / mouse icon associatons. It seems that any icon stored in the %systemroot% location (did not get full file path) disappeared and a message came up saying the file could not be found. I am starting to think MSO itself might be an issue at least on my machine. I have now reverted to MSO 2003 but am using Outlook 2007 as my email as my pst file would not convert to 2003 to use. So far no problems with MSO 2003 "touch wood" though I have not re-installed Batman as yet. Hopefully I can resolve the issue though as I prefer the 2007 Office Suite.

    hi loquatious-

i just installed windows 7 (clean install) and am having similar difficulties. icons associated with office 2007, itunes, roxio all broken, as well as the icons for hte files created within those apps. i tried to uninstall, like you did, and had the same result. office broke, and i couldn't uninstall or reinstall. had to reinstall windows from scratch. like you, my second attempt went better, but eventually they broke again.

i'm hoping you eventually came up with a solution for this... any luck? any tips are greatly appreciated.

    Hi czollers

No luck for me unfortunately .. i ended up installing Office 2010 but i have other programs doing exatly the same thing .. icon files corrupting, install folder not found .... mostly microsoft products like silverlight etc. I purchased Tweak7 and it will not even run any more .. it shows as running in processes but I cannot get the program on my desktop. I am tired of re-installing and live with the corrupted / broken icons for now.
