    Disable KeyTips?

I use a keyboard remapping program (KLM64) and need to have the Alt combinations available to complete the keyboard.

However, MS Word 2007/10 has the Alt key sequestered for its KeyTips function and I cannot find out how to turn it off (I never use it and it prevents me from really using the keyboard program).

How does one turn off KeyTips so Alt is freed up for other purposes?

    Thanks for your help.

Not sure how to stop it all together. But i know how to edit KeyTips to change the ALT value of the shortcuts. Depending on how many ALT combinations there are. IT could take a while:

    1. Click the Office button

    2. Select Word Options

    3. Click Customize

    4. In the bottom of the window, click the Customize button beside Keyboard shortcuts

    5. In the Customize Keyboard box, locate the command for which you would like to edit the keyboard shortcut. Start by selecting the category. For each category, the commands will appear at the right side of the window. When you select one, a brief description will appear at the bottom of the dialog box.

    6. The current shortcut key, if there is one, will appear in the Current keys box

    7. Click inside the box labeled Press new shortcut key

    8. Press the shortcut key you would like to use. Include the Ctrl, Shift, or Ctrl + Shift keys

    9. If the shortcut key is currently assigned, Word will tell you what command currently uses the shortcut key

    10. You can reassign the shortcut key, or you can select a new one

    11. Choose whether you'd like to save the shortcut key in the Normal template (all documents) or only the current document

    12. Click Assign when you're happy with your changes

    13. Click Close

    Braddersz:

Thank you very much for your reply. I followed the directions and checked all of the categories and then, to make sure, went through All Commands, and KeyTips does not appear anywhere. So, we still seem to be unable to get rid of this prime example of MS paternalism. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

In the KLM64, Can you not change the value of ALT to something that WORD 2007 dosnt use as a key stroke?.

I'm not sure we can remove the ALT value from Office.
