Cannot sync Outlook 2007 contacts and calendars with icloud and iphone

    Hello knowledgeable ones:

Until last week I was using outlook 2003, an older versions of itunes, and an ipod, and was able to back up my outlook contacts and calender through itunes and right to the ipod, no problem.

Now, however, I have had to upgrade everything so they can handshake correctly. This has meant going to Outlook 2007, the latest itunes, an iphone 5, and the icloud. My entire goal is to have the contacts in outlook match the contacts in both the cloud and the phone.

In using the icloud control on both of these, I now have the following: a variety of calenders in my outlook with names like calender in icloud, home in icloud, and my calender, all in lovely pastel shades. The phone has one calendar with only the occasionally dupes on a given date.

The phone, however, is a disaster, with as many as three dupes of the same name. Looking at Outlook, I have a slew of contacts, some dupes, many that I though i had deleted from outlook. Also two categories of contacts, icloud and my contacts, with sub-directories in each. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that the contacts tab under my contacts was completely blank following a sync to the cloud, only to then find the other five versions, which, of course, I would like to have agree with each other. The icloud interface on line shows dupe contacts as well.

I understand that one person may not have all the answers to all the parts of this; I am on an iphone forum as well, trying to figure it out from that end. I guess the main focus here could be how outlook 2007 backs up to the cloud, and the question I have for everyone all the time, which is which overwrites what? Do changes in outlook appear in the cloud or vice versa? The interface of Outlook is better than that of icloud because you can see the whole listing at once, but if I am forced to do all the editing in the cloud to get this to work I will. `Plus, how to get all the various versions of the various contacts and calenders to agree with each other in Outlook.

Thanks in advance for reading this far and unlocking the secrets for me.

Hello jdkoerner, welcome to Seven Forums.

Quite a lot of information in the following:

    Maybe something there to help.

No, it is a HUMONGOUS amount of information. I will try to pick my way through it, but really, integration between devices, programs, and web sites seems to be getting worse and worse. Even Verizon, which provided both the device and the monthly service, said that I cannot use their own website to back up my iphone contacts. I told them it was their phone!

Twin outlooks, but only one can send email

Check this out: I may have stumbled on to something. I was running some trial and error tests and it appears that any change I make to Outlook OR the iCloud OR the iphone occurs in the other two in real time! This is the best of all situations. How is this possible?

And since you are a guru, of course I need you to consider a brand new puzzle --

I have two computers, same windows on each, same outlook 2007 on each, same email account settings. Only one sends email and the other does not.

The one that does not send does receive email. When I attempt to send, all processes appear to complete. Even the internal test message says "congratulations!", and sends out the test message. But any email in the outbox goes nowhere, and I get a message, printed above the send/to line, that says "this message has not been sent. This message will be sent by cloud9.net [that's my provider].

Oh, great guru, how is such a thing possible??

No longer sycned oulook to phone to icloud

I was in sync between the phone, outlook and icloud, in real time, for all of a new you minute.

Let me break this down into parts:

    What is the difference between

    Contacts
    Local Contact
    Contacts in icloud
    Contacts from icloud to icloud
Plus some others with contact folders that I made before I started this madness
    Other clues:
My contacts are now completely blank
By far, it is the contacts in icloud [500] as opposed to contacts from icloud to icloud [under two hundred] that has the most contacts.
Can't I get rid of most of these? is this the reason there is so much confusion between phone, cloud and contacts? One thing I have not been doing is using iTunes anywhere in the process. Is that my big mistake.
