Windows 7: When outlook or word is open ->w7 x64 slow

It is the word plugin that slow down word not the program itself, so even if endnote is not open, you will see a slowdown. They mention some things on their FAQ you can try but it didn't work for me on xp x64 at my lab. On my w7 machine, I just uninstalled it and it worked.

Same problem with word - windows 7 and REFERENCE MANAGE

Hellow dudes, wanted to let you know, that I got the same problems as earlier described with reference manager. And if I say sluggish I mean, my fast machine got even slower then my old pc which is more than 5 years old... so you can image

But! because of the great comment posted here I could regonize a similar problem here and solve it by installing the latest update (for all the Ref Man users, you can find it here: Reference Manager 12.0.2 Update)

So thx everybody, top notch forum.

Having similar problems

Hello all,

I have Windows 7 and Office 2003 on two different machines--Win 7 32 bit on one and 64 bit on the other. In general terms, WIN 7 seems to work great and everything snaps--except for Office 2003. I can go out for coffee in the time it takes Word to open or close a file now. I did not have similar problems with Office 2003 while running it under Win XP. Very frustrating, as I use Word a lot.

Oh, and both machines have 4 gig of RAM and I am not now running any software that did not play nicely with Office under Win XP.

Why not use office 2007

Why don't you use office 2007? It's actually better, better layout properties. I got running with windows 7 and latest updates for add-ins and everything runs fine. I also got office 2003 installed, it works also good, although a bit slower.

I think, like previously mentioned, the problem is an add-in program or might be some files installed wrong? giving conflicts..? which version of windows 7 do you got? Any other programs giving problems? What does the service log says?

Hi Robert. I have Office 2007 Pro in the closet. Bought it. Tried it for a month. Hated it. Took it off and put 2003 back. Have been using Office since the original version and everything in between and know it inside and out, so using it is fast and intuitive. The "ribbon" and other numerous interface changes in Office 2007 gave me absolutley nothing useful to me and just got in my way and made it much less productive for me.

Incorrect installaiton is extremely unlikely, as on both machines the installation was fresh (one on a new laptop running Win 7 64 bit and one on my desktop after a reformt clean install of Win 7 32 bit), with full up-to-the-minute updates. Both machines have 4 gig of memory. All other programs work normally.

Open time for Word is running about 45 to 50 seconds and close time about the same. Not a huge amount of time in the abstract, but it seems like forever on a modern computer and many times longer than I experienced under XP.

and you got no add-ins? Then its becoming really strange... If I get another idea I will let ya know.
And 40 seconds is to much. unacceptable. You can also use latex... but that's not the sollution fr your problem
