Permanently changing default language to English UK

    Hi Guys

I know this is not going to be popular, but I want UK-English.

I am in Australia, so setting the international formats does not work for us as we have $ dollars and metric.

Every day I open up a new word document (WORD 2010), I have to set the proofing language back to UK-English as default. But Word keeps defaulting it back to US-English.

Can anyone give me the permanent fix. Sorry to all the Americans and Australians, but I want UK-English.

What is your keyboard set to?

BTW this is not related but why if you are in Australia does this Profile show the US Tme Zone?

    Sir,

    Thank you.

I have the keyboard set to US. I get a little scared about changing it to UK. It is a US made keyboard and I was told unless you are German or something like that all “English” keyboards need to be set to US.

No my time zone is local. It is 8:32pm and I have had a gut full of my PC problems – yes there are many….

Who on earth told you that? Create a system restore point or better still use Macrium Reflect to create a back up image then change the keyboard to UK English and see what that does. It will of course give you the Sterling Pound sign and your @ symbol will change keys.

then change the keyboard to UK English and see what that does. It will of course give you the Sterling Pound sign and your @ symbol will change keys. – I am not very happy with a GBP key as I very rarely use GBP and what will my @ key do?? It all sounds a little scary.

    Read this for System Restore:
    System Restore Point - Create
    and this for Macrium Reflect:
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

When you are ready if you have any questions on either subject post them here on the Forum.
You seem to have other problems at the moment so if the Language is not a burning problem I would suggest you solve one thing at a time. As you seem reluctant to change the set up of your keyboard and as you say you don't use the pound sterlin sign, why do you want to set up to UK English?

My preference is for UK-English. It is a shame I live in Australia and have not use for a GBP symbol. But I still would like to change the default language to UK- English. Is there a way to do it and retain the $-sign?????

It seems from your comments you are reluctant to help or it is not possible

My advice to solve one problem at a time was IMHO most sensible. You don't say if you have looked at the two links \i sent you! Keeping a regular back up of your system is the best advice anyone can give you given your apparent level of expertise. That is certainly not meant to sound insulting just plain common sense. I don't think you will find one single member of this or any other techie Forum that will say BACKUP _ BACKUP is not very sound advice! Without you do a backup I would be reluctant to offer you any further advice as in these circumstances you need to be in a position, that if things go wrong you can very easily return your systen to a good state.
Whether you take the advice is of course your choice!

    Sir,

I am totally confused. Is it possible to set the default to UK-English. If it is then I would like to know how, if not then I will try and see if time solves the issue.

    You mentioned:

“Create a system restore point or better still use Macrium Reflect to create a back up image” – I said I have no idea what this means, but you offered no explanation.

FYI, I have 2 HDD in RAID 1.

If I have offended I meant no harm and I am sorry. Can we move forwards?
