what are the options to recover deleted sheets within an excel file? nothing in the recycle bin

excel file isnt in \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel

autosave is set to 120 mins though it should have saved at least once...

Have you tried Recuva? They are many programs of this type but I trust Piriform (makers of Ccleaner). Whatever program you choose, do it fast! The longer you wait the more chance you have of overwriting the lost data so time is of the essence here. Use your machine as sparingly as possible until you try any recovery software. Of course, the simple fact of downloading any of the programs has the risk of overwriting your lost data.

that's for deleted files -- this is a

excel sheet

within an excel file that is existing.

any ideas?

You may have to use a backup. See:Move or copy worksheets to another workbook

Hopefully you do at least daily backups. I make a ZIP copy of every Excel and word fiel before I open them.
