    Microsoft Word 2010 Documents

I have an HP computer with Office Starter 2010 pre-installed. I have since installed Office Professional Plus 2010. Documents continue to open to Office Starter instead of Word. How do I set documents to open to Word all the time? I have tried setting the properties of file to open with Word and check marking for all files, but it keeps returning to Office Starter.

I would guess go to Uninstall a program and see if there's two versions of Office showing and uninstall starter.

Click on the Windows key, type Default, then hit Enter (poor enter). Click on Default Programs. The easiest selection will probably be Associate a File Type or Prototype with a Program. Click on it, find the file types you want Word to open, such as .docx, .dotx, .doc, etc.), click on one and click on Change the Program in the upper right corner of the Window. Repeat for each file type.

I have two identical computers, both with Windows 7, Office Starter and Word 2010. The settings are the same on both computers, with various document extensions set to open with Office Client Virtualization Handler. One computer opens documents as it should with Word 2010, while the other opens documents with Office Starter. Attempting to get the computer that opens with Officer Starter to recognize Word 2010, as uninstalling Office Starter and reinstalling Office Professional Plus 2010 had no results.

Did you try what I suggested?

What is the file type Starter produced ?
Does not sound like a .docx ?
When upgrading an office suite it's best to Uninstall the inferior version first.

When I change the file type protocol from Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler to Microsoft Word, the document opens with WordPad. When I change the file type protocol to WordPad, it will still open with WordPad.

When I attempt to SAVE AS a (docx.) document, it only gives me the option to SAVE AS "All Files" and not Microsoft Word Document.

I figured it out! I found that I had to re-register my Office Professional Plus install. Now, documents open with Word instead of Starter. Thanks for your input. In case others might have the same issue:
    1. Click Start | Run (bottom- left corner of your screen).
    2. In the “Open“ box, type:winword /r
and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash
