Excel advanced conditional editing help needed

    Hi
I have two excel files. One is inventory and other is ip plan.

The inventory document has a alot of data. Of them One column is of computer name and second is ip.

The ip plan has one column consisting of ip and next to it the user name and some other information.

Now I want the ip plan document to also have a column for computer name.
For this i will have to look at the ip column in ip plan file for first ip. Then search the inventory file for that ip. Once that ip is found in inventory file there is a machine name next to it. I will have to copy it and paste it next to ip plane file.

How can i do it. Any clue? I have not used excel so deeply.

Can you post both files, or are they confidential? Only few sample rows needed.... may be fake as well. Are you using excel2007?

Are both lists ordered by IP (or are you willing to order by IP)?

VLOOKUP is the function to use.

I agree - VLOOKUP is the tool to use for this.
