Error message when you try to publish a new blog post in Word

Hi all - First, I have never published a blog post using Microsoft Word before and am looking for someone who has done it or can make it work. Typically, this might be done with a SharePoint back-end, but I am using WordPress as my back-end.

    • I have successfully "registered" with my back-end
    • I get an error "Word cannot publish this post."

In this KB article Error message when you try to publish a new blog post in Word 2007: "Word cannot publish this post" the problem is described, but the work around is foreign to me, despite many years of working with Word.

The article (the only one I have located on this problem) suggests that CATEGORIES are the problem but admittedly, I have no idea how to create, edit or delete them in Word.

    Steps to reproduce the problem:
    1. Create a new (empty) blog post in Word
    2. Type some text (Lorem Ipsum will do)
    3. Click Publish
    4. Observe error message "Word cannot publish this post."
    5. Verify error condition by pressing CTRL+SHFT+I and observing code 701797 appears in lower right of error dialog.

This sequence assumes you have previously set up and connected to your back-end. If you don't have one, create a brand new test wordpress.com account (e.g. mytest.wordpress.com) and connect using URL http://mytest.wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php along with your wordpress user name and password. The first time you try to post, you will be prompted for the Blog Post URL to connect to and can manage that information under Word > Blog Post > Manage Accounts.

I have walked through all the Word command menus and cannot find anything about categories, so the KB article might not be applicable or I just don't know this aspect of Word. Either way, I cannot publish via Word and am looking for a resolution. Just FYI, I am seeking a resolution on this because I wish to publish from OneNote, which uses Word as the intermediate publishing tool to the back-end.

After working with the Microsoft community, I found that uninstalling, re-installing and updating Office resolved the problem.
