How do I leave compatibility mode in win7 starter's Word?

I have Office Word 07 running on Windows 7 starter systerm. What I need to do is be able to copy/paste a resume to an online application. I worked on the document and emailed to myself from a computer running Office Word 97-2003. I am stuck in compatibility mode, and I am also locked out from making any edits.

To get out of Compatibility Mode, click the Start Button, then All Programs, scroll down to MS Office 2007, Left Click, find Word 2007, Right Click on it & select Properties, when that opens Select the Compatibility Tab, Untick all the boxes, then select Apply, then close it.

You could try Run as Administrator for your editing problem.

Thank you; I followed your instructions, only to find that none of the boxes were ticked when I got there. But I did hit "run as admin". I'm going to see if that changes anything.

    update: it didn't work.

I had missed the bit about copying from an email you sent to yourself where you used Win Word 97-2003, which I assume you added in your later edit of your post.
You could try opening the emailed Document & then saving it as a Word 2007 document & see if that works.

There may also be some limits on what you can do as your are using Windows 7 Starter. Windows 7 Starter is not really designed for extensive & complicated Office applications.

    1) I did your suggestion and emailed it to myself (i have 2 accounts), and it showed my whole resume, so I was able to copy/paste from there. So thank you for that suggestion!
    2) since I never got the real Office, whenever I open Word it asks me for a product key. Since I don't know/have it, I've always hit "quit" and now I realize, once I hit "quit", THAT'S when it locks everything. So. (But it didn't do that before; is this related to that recent announcement about how they've stopped supporting a certain older system?)
