    error message when opening excel

After lots of problem I have just had my Windows7 professionally reinstalled and am now in the process of installing my software. The Microsoft Office software is Ms Office with Frontpage. My list of programs confirms that this is the installed program and Frontpage can indeed be opened. When I try to open Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc I get a message that says"the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'MS Office XP Professional with FrontPage' disk and click OK". When I do this nothing happens. I then click "Cancel" and Excel opens OK. It is not much more than a nuisance but how can I get rid of these error message?

It does seem that you may have problems installing MS Office XP Professional particularly with Windows 7 Pro x64. Have a read through all the answers on these websites.

Thanks for this. I only need Excel, Word and PowerPoint. I have a Works 9 disk which, I believe, has the needed software on it. Is it safe to uninstall Office and install Works 9 instead?

I have Works 9 on my Win7 along with Office 2010 Pro 64-bit. Works 9 was the last. A choice available for folks without resources is LibreOffice 4, can open Works files and a number of other formats including the newer for Office 2007 and 2010 and also Microsoft Office 2008 and 2011 on Macintosh OS X.

The Works disc does not have Office on it but a Works Suite install uses a version of Word instead of the Works word processor part.

I found a disk with MS Office 2003. Uninstalled MS Office with FrontPage and installed MS Office 2003 with a custom install for Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Problem solved.
    Thanks for all your help.
