Hi Herm61! :)
Among several other reasons you might have a corrupt registry key, go here: Fix “There was a problem sending a command to the program” Error and follow the steps in Method 5.
- First, create a restore point, it will backup your registry, just in case there is a mistake made.
- To open the registry editor, go to and click on the start button/orb in the lower left corner of your desktop. Do you see Run at the bottom of the right panel?
- If you do, click on it and type in regedit in the Open box then click on OK, depending on how you have your User Account Control (UAC) set you may see a box open asking you if you want to continue, click on OK and the registry editor will open.
- Then you need to drill down to this key for Word 2007:
I know it says 12.0 but that is the sub-key for Office. When you get there do as Method 5 instructs and delete the "Data" sub-key, in the left pane of the editor; Right click on it and go to where you see Delete in the context menu, click on that. It will be rebuilt when you open Word again the next time.Code:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Word\Data
- Close the registry editor and if you like you can reboot your machine at this time.
- Test by opening one of your Word documents.
- Success or fail? Let me know, okay?
For a quickie you can go to Word Options > Resources > run Microsoft Office Diagnostics. Maybe it can fix it.
