Office 2010 clean install - questions about Outlook folders

I had to do a clean install of Win 7, and then, of course, Office 2010.

I backed up my outlook.pst and still have it.
I started Outlook, and did an "import" from my saved file into a new/blank outlook.pst file.
The import process did NOT include the email account set ups, signatures and perhaps some other stuff I haven't found yet.

It also failed to import a couple (at least 2) personal folders. But that is not critical.

When I look at my folders, on the left, I see:
- a primary folder (section) called "Outlook" AND another primary folder (section) called "Personal Folders"
- Under each section, I see my "saved folders"; they appear to be duplicates
- Under each section, I see a "Calendar"; they appear to be duplicates
- Same for Contacts They have the same number of items.

What is the difference in the folders under "Outlook" and "Personal Folders"?
I feel I should delete one or the other. I certainly do not need 2 sets of "saved folders"!

You will probably have to set up your email accounts again. this can be done either from within Outlook or open Control Panel, select the Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2010) applet & this will open a box where you can select various options & one is Account Settings & another where you can change folders.

I have already set up my 4 email addresses and am receiving emails.

The question is:
It appears that my import process, to start, actually imported several items twice. In particular, the calendar and a lot of saved folders.
One set is under "Outlook", the other is under "Personal Folders"
What is the difference in these 2 "sections", or top level folders?
Can I delete one whole set of saved folders and calendar? If so, which one?
I don;t want to screw up anything.

Have a look through both sets of folders that you have. If there are things in one folder that you wish to keep, copy those into the other folder & then delete it. Do the same thing with the calendars.

I rarely do imports as I just move the pst I want to use and make it the default. I thought after the import the personal folder file would close on its own but I can't remember for sure. Did you try restarting Outlook?

Either way you can go to account settings > Data Files and choose the one you want and remove the one you don't.

Signatures are stored in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures On a few occasions when I didn't have those files backed up I have gone into the sent items folder and copied the signature and pasted into the signature setup and it worked fine.

I have started and restarted Outlook numerous times. The duplicate folders remaind.
I have now deleted all the duplicate folders that were under the "Personal Folders" tab/section/folder.
Everything I need is now in the "Outlook" tab/section/folder.
So far....all is well.
