Can't install Office 2000; seven errors then fatal error message
Phooey! I had trouble with my Office 2007 and finally gave up on it, switching to LibreOffice. As might have been predicted, I'm quite frustrated with that on (although, give it credit, it *does* work!).
So I pulled out my Office 2000 CDs. I've had that on a Windows 7 machine before and am pretty sure it ought to be installable. But when I try, it fiddles and diddles for awhile and the starts with the error messages. After each, I clicked ignore (just to see what would happen) which took me to the next and finally culminated in a can't install-fatal error message.
There were four 1401 errors thusly: cannot create key ... be sure you have access ...
And then two 1406 errors: could not write value FileName to key ...
Then one 1402 error: could not open key ...
And finally, the fatal error: installation ended prematurely because of an error.
I have no idea where to start. Could my uninstalling Office 2007 have broken something? Do I need to uninstall LibreOffice before attempting this installation? Would it be smarter to expend my rapidly depleting energies re-installing Office 2007 ... seek help with its errors if necessary? I liked Office 2000 but I'll take the easiest route to get working again.
Thanks oh so much for any help.
