Word Documents No Longer Opening From Shortcuts

My Office 2007 has been working fine until I tried to open and documents today. If I click on a document shortcut I get an error message, "There was a problem sending the command to the program" and the document won't open. If I open a blank Word page and use the menu to Open, I can locate the file and it opens just fine. I have many Word docs so I really need some help on this one. I have search the net and found some suggestions on changing the Word data registry file, but that did not work. Excel and other Office files open fine. Chuck

    Hi,
I've seen that message before I would usually clear which ever list the doc was on and repopulate it.
Assuming your referring to the start menu list of items.

No, I'm talking about not being able to open any word document from any folder on my computer and getting the error message. Chuck

Try this. Open Control Panel, select Default Programs, when that opens click on Set Your Default Programs, then click on Word from the list, then down the bottom of the screen you should see Choose Defaults for this Program, double click on that & tick all the items in the list of what will open Word, then click on Save down the bottom.

I've already done all of that, everything possible for file associations. No help. Chuck.

Hi are the files on the C drive ?
You mention "shortcuts" to the files in your question is why I assumed a recent list was being used elsewhere
But you also state the recent list word uses work without issue.

They are all on this computer and they are the Word icons for all of my saved word documents. Chuck
