    And I never even installed any McAfee AV. Just had McAfee Security Scan Plus accidentally installed with a Flash Player update. Will have to be more careful with that.
    I'm glad this headache has been solved now, thank you all!

    Do you think it would be safe to install Norton 360 again? After all, I have paid for it...

    Some people like Norton and some people have nothing but problems with Norton.

    I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti Malware Premium

    MSE is free and Malwarebytes has a sale going on at the present time.

    The MGADiag report looks good to me - hopefully there won't be any more problems.
    Once you uninstall Avast (if you do!) then you'll need to run their cleanup tool before installing Norton (if you must) or MSE...

    Download the Avast removal utility from here Avast Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for Avast Removal
    Follow the instructions for running it, and when complete, reboot the machine.

    Finally I have reinstalled Norton after removing Avast and everything runs smoothly now.
