vertical scrolling in Excel skips my 2000 rows: jumps to 100.000+

I am working on a big excel sheet, with around 2000 vertical rows.
Until recently there was no problem scrolling up and down to check/add content 'down under', towards the end of my workspace.
But now, if I use the SCROLL BAR button, it jumps from let's say row 100 directly to row 100.000+ or so.
    What is the cause?
    How can I prevent it?

    Thanks

You have not mentioned which version of Excel, you are using. When you say the Scroll Bar button, are you referring to button on the side of the screen or the mouse button.

    Sorry for the omission.
    It's Excel 2010 professional.
And I mean the scroll bar button on the right hand side of the excel window. Even the slightest 'pull down' movement brings it already to row 4550... My real workspace of 2000 rows cannot be reached this way.
Scrolling with the mouse wheel works normal - but is slow. Takes ages to go down a few hundred rows....
    Any idea?

In Excel 2013 using Ctrl+End will take you to the last row on a spreadsheet & Ctrl+Home will take you back to the first row, if you wish to go back up again.

I really can't suggest how to slow down the scroll bar. Have a look in your Excel help files for keyboard short cuts. Using short cuts does save a lot of time, especially with large spreadsheets.

It's not a matter of settings or shortcuts, I know those features.
It is an all-of-a-sudden-strange-change in the behavior of the scroll button, jumping 1000's of rows down
    Mystery!
Did I by accident hit/change any hidden setting?
    Anyone?

After endless searches I found a link that did not describe exactly MY scrolling problem, but a similar one.
Nevertheless: by applying the same solution worked - so my scrollbar works perfectly normal again.
Thanks to those who tried to help.
Apparently there was an 'invisible' problem: some cell(s) far down below had acquired (how?) invisible data that Excel remembered as being relevant for me. Só relevant that it immediately jumped to that cell when you start scrolling. Don't ask me what and why...
    The solution:
    1. Select and delete ALL columns to the right of your existing data block
    2. Select and delete ALL rows below your existing data block.
    3. SAVE THE NEW FILE - OTHERWISE EXCEL STILL 'REMEMBERS' THOSE ERRONEOUS CELLs!
    4. Done!
