Download the free Libre Office. The wordprocessor (equivalent to MS Word) has an option to "export as PDF".

Have a look at the various print to PDF applications available - Later word versions have this built in but for older Word versions plus any other application that has a print function these print drivers will do the job
My personal preference is the free PDF creator but others are available some including PDFCreator have online versions so you can work from other devices or whilst away from home
I also use PDFCreator for simple documents that have same size pages that are standard sized, such as online receipts. PDFCreator is what is known as a virtual printer. Virtual Printers take the output of a program that normally goes to a printer and uses that data to create a digital document, usually a PDF. To use a virtual printer to create a PDF from a Word document, open the document in Word, select Print Preview and Print, select the virtual printer instead of your physical printer, hit Print, then follow the menus that start popping up (there may be some lag).
The free version of PDFCreator has a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) in its installation file that many Antivirus and antimalware programs will hit on. In this case, it is safe to keep and run the installer. Just make sure to use the advanced or expert setting when installing PDFCreator so you can opt out of PDFArchitect when it is offered (unless you actually want it; I don't because I use Adobe Acrobat Standard for more advanced PDF creation and editing).
