Excel Opening in read only (1 user, 1 network share folder)

I have one PC that the user opens a shortcut on the desktop to a network share and as of yesterday morning all of the excel files are opening in read only mode. All other excel files both local and network open fine. If I log onto that PC I can open those same files in edit mode. I have checked the shares on the server and there is no lock on them. They have been working fine for months, this just started yesterday morning. It is just the excel files in one network share. All other excel files in network shares on the same server open in edit mode

Hi Iwoods, welcome to the Forum.

Have you checked where the shortcut is looking for the file. Right Click on the shortcut & the drop down menu should list File Location, which you can click on to see where the file is located. If it can't find the File Location, try re-establishing the shortcut with a new one based on the correct file location.

Also check the User Profile to be sure they have the necessary authority to access the file.

Thank You, Yes I did check the short cut, the file opens but in read only mode. The user has full control over the share, the folder and all of its contents

This MS website might help you, or if not give you some areas to check on.
