can't open files, says "Installing MS Office 2007 Hybrid"

    a month ago purchased/installed Office Pro 2007

everything has worked will until this afternoon, after
MS updates and installing new Quicken

when I try to open office Word or Publisher files instead of opening I get a message
    "Installing Microsoft Office 2007 Hybrid"

I don't know what it is so I've stopped it from installing

I can't find it in programs or with a search on my computer....

all the info I can find does not really explain where it has come from and why....
and how to get rid of it

and... comments I see seems, it continues to be a problem for many

please don't suggest a non-standard software "fix" installation....

    I have Win 7 64

    thanks!

Was Office Pro 2007 that you purchased on a DVD & did it come with a validation/activation code as well.

Apparently there is a starter version of Office 2007 that is termed as a Hybrid, which may be what you have.

Have you tried repairing Office, which you should be able to do by opening Control Panel, selecting Programs & Features, scroll down to Microsoft Office, right click on it & select Change & that should list a couple of Repair options. If there are no Repairs options shown there, click on the Start button, select All Programs & click on Microsoft Office & see if it lists a Repair option.

If none of the above help, you could have a look at what files are actually on the installation DVD to see if that helps identify it's actual version.

they did come with validation and have worked for over a month with out the hybrid problem...
does not say anything about being a starter version

but does say "licensed for distribution with a new PC"

    I will try the "repair"
    and contact the seller....

noticed a "file validation add in" in the list of MS office...
    what is that?

The fact that it does say "Licensed for Distribution with a new PC" would certainly indicate it is probably the Starter version. Yes definitely contact the seller.

Generally speaking most people are suggesting that you try & get Office 2010 or later if you can.

I've been told by a lot of people, including MS, that 2010 will not open many 2003 files and they may be permanently lost.. I had problems with the trial version... would not open many files

and... buying 2010, I'm in the same situation... potentially buying an older copy from some scam seller...
    darn...

seller says it is a product key activation problem....
sent a phone number to call MS
recorded message says "have activation wizard open"

what... uninstall and reinstall to that point?

recorded message, more MS run around or going to help?
there was no way to get more help, have activation wizard open or good bye....

seller told me to call MS office... but, did not provide phone number and not available on site.... and MS won't acknowledge me... can't give cell number to them for "verification"
MS won't talk to people who don't have cell phones... LOL..... diversity....

Did you use the setup.exe file on the DVD to install Office. (Looking at your screen shot in your post #5). I see there is a file showing ProHybridr.WW also on the DVD list. What's in that file?.

The seller has suggested it's office Activation problem, well may be!. This MS website tells you how to activate Office 2007, so give that a try & see how you go.

it was installed... and working since.... about.... 7-18-2017... all the "activation" info is about new installation problems? or an I missing something, the way I did not see...... "prohybrid...."

says.... Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Access Options.....

opened "MS Access" and tried, says "already activated"
outlook and Acess open.... not word or publisher

on a whim... I've usually found MS "fix" programs not effective... I ran the "diagnostic" offered on the window that opened with my attempt to "Activate"
diagnostic said "one problem found" it did not explain what....
    but....

everything works... word opens, excel opens, Publisher opens...

    any idea what happened?
    just in case ;-)

    and

    Thank you!
