Office 365 - Merge Exchange account with external imap account

    Hello!
I hope there is someone familiar with Office 365 :)

I have two questions regarding the Exchange accounts

    1) I have bought 5 subscriptions for my company, which allows me to make 5 email adresses. Is it possible not to buy another subscriptions and make more mails? Like in every company, something like help@mydomain.com or office@mydomain.com?

    2) If answer to prior question is "no", how I can operate on two mail servers? I have account on hosting site on which I operated for last 5 years, I'd like to have 5 exchange accounts on office, and keep some mail adresses on my former hosting site. Is there any live-sync option that will transfer email from myname@mydomain.com from my hosting to my account on office.com?

    Thanks!

    Here's what I have done:

I wanted to have a permanent email address, and so I purchased a domain. (Let's call it jimsdomain.com.) I then went to an email hosting company and asked them to be my registrar and host for jimsdomain.com. I pay about $15 per year to maintain my ownership of jimsdomain.com; and I pay about $30 per year to have a whole bunch of actual email addresses (hundreds), plus a whole bunch of virtual email addresses.
    • The actual email addresses each have 10 GB of email storage.
    • The virtual email addresses simply forward all incoming email to other email addresses.
Each person who has an actual email address on my domain can check their email either via the webmail interface or via an email program, such as Outlook or Thunderbird. And they can set up the email program to do POP3 or IMAP, but I'm not sure if Exchange is available.

Two email providers I have dealt with are Dotster and Rackspace. I have been very pleased with both.

Dotster will host your web site, if you have one. I'm not sure about Rackspace.
Rackspace will let you do Exchange email, in addition to POP3 and IMAP. I'm not sure about Dotster.

I'm not sure what you mean about two servers. Are you going to host your own email? I don't think that is what you meant, because you said that you have bought five subscriptions for your company, which means that someone else is hosting your email.

As far as a live-sync option, you will need to check with your email provider on that, as well as the cost of email addresses.

I'm not sure how Office 365 works for email.

I hope that this information is helpful for you.

Hey Jim, thanks for your answer!

I think I have found solution, but I must wait to implement it :)
Manage mail flow with mailboxes in multiple locations (Office 365 and on-prem): Exchange Online Help

What I basically wanted to do is on the scheme under the link, but I can replicate it for you.
I have hosting on which I have mails and my webiste and ftp... etc. for like 5 years. We have recently bought 5 subscriptions for Office 365 for 5 persons from the company (rest of the mails are dummy mails, like contact@domain.com or help@domain.com or mails for our external consultants). I want that mails to be on office servers. I can do that easily by pointing MX records on my domain.com to office servers, which I have done. But then, the mail for only 5 persons works. Rest are bounced, which is totally normal, because Office doesn't have these mailboxes.

So, what I want achieve, is take mails to Office servers for only these 5 persons. If there is no mailbox on Office, it should send it to my old hosting server. Situation like this:

    MyHostingServer mails: Office 365 accounts
    1@domain.com 1@domain.com
    2@domain.com 2@domain.com
    3@domain.com

As you can see, I don't have mailbox for 3 on Office. I want to get emails on 1 and 2 on Office site, and 3 pointed to my old hosting server.

As I can see it's achievable via connectors on Office side, however I must test it :)
