I'm not seeing this like you: files that don't appear in the source folder are deleted from the destination folder during b/u.
But, accidental deletions or simply 'lost material' on the source folder is a primary reason to access the destination b/u.
I may not know I've lost a file until I go looking for it.
If I have done a back-up in the meantime, that material will have been deleted from the destination folder.
I can understand why someone who is regularly recording and deleting large amounts of data might not want the deleted stuff to be backed-up, or saved next time around, but an option to disable that function needs to be in place.
You choose to circumvent this issue by backing-up the back-up deletions - which works, but is a step to far in my case; disabling this delete feature makes more sense for me.
Unfortunately, these types of issue are what has discouraged me in the past and left me backing-up my entire data drive each time; there's apparently no "one size fits all" is there?

The business of the hot-swap looks like you said: no Sata hot-swap capability, but I'll have it double-checked in case I'm missing something; thank-you.

Thinking about this some more and re-reading your missive, perhaps I misunderstood: this 'Versioning' facility, does it exist on the B/U destination drive or are you using yet another drive. The latter is what I would avoid, but if it's stored on the same drive alongside the b/u then that works for me. Yes, thinking about it, that makes a lot of sense.

The backup plan has to be tailored to each individual user's need.

I have long term backup of my Images, Video, and music on a number of drives in Network Attached Storage, but all of this is also included in my weekly full data backup which I have on a two week rollover. I have two "live" copies of the data backups at all times, I remove the oldest as I create a new copy each week.

This is repeated for my System Drive. I have three Live copies of my System Backup which otherwise rollover as the data.

My System and Data backups are completely separate, (all my User Folders are relocated to data drives from their normal C drive location)

I use image backups that I can mount to recover any amount of content from a single data file, via folder trees, partitions to complete backups The data backup is a single file but includes images of each partition.

I also create a temporary image of the system drive before any major update, I keep this until happy with the upgrade

By the way, my data backup takes around 6 hours to do over Sata 3 Via USB 3, and the compressed image is approximately 1.7 TeraBytes

Tried downloading FFS and Malwarebytes will not allow it. Even trying to put the FFS url into MBs exclusions zone will not work, telling me it is not a valid url.

Cant see why MWB has an issue with Free File Sync FreeFileSync download | SourceForge.net is the original Sourceforge location - MWB should not have any issue with that link, as I think Sourceforge has been around longer that MWB

BitDefender has checked both sites and they are fine

I have less than 300gb of data on a HDD.
My OS is on a 120gb SSD and is 85gb.
I've got a couple of 2tb bare HHDs for b/u.
Considering how cheap the ssds have become I may use one for imaging my os and reserve the HHDs for data b/u.

Would you believe MWB is blocking that too.
Do you think I should disable it to allow the install?
    How secure is Bitdefender?
