    Microsoft Office Starter Won't Open

I checked a number of threads for this issue already, and am attempting to "repair" per other posts, but I get a message saying it cannot proceed because I need internet access. I have internet access, so I am not sure what the deal is. Not sure why recently this issue has come up with Office Starter. I have had this pc for almost 8 years and never had this problem. Can't open excel or word files.

Hi Todd0921, welcome to the Forum.

From what your System Specs say, I assume you are using that HP computer & the version of Office Starter 2010, as you have said the computer is about 8 years old. The HP website below might help you with Repairing Office.

HP Notebook PCs - How to repair, uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office Starter 2010 | HP® Customer Support

While reading that HP website I noticed it mentioned Office Starter 2010 is a "Click to Run" installation, which means most of the installation is installed via the internet, hence the message you are getting about internet access.

Thanks Ranger4. I'll give it a whirl mate. Thanks for the post. I"ll let you know how it works out. I uploaded some updates for Windows 7 that were recommended and had it working for awhile, but back to square 1 now. The saga continues.............. Spent about an hour today on line with Microsoft help desk chat. They suggested buying Microsoft Office as a solution. Here's my surprised face! Not willing to spend money to resolve this issue. I'll keep plugging away.

If you feel you have to uninstall Office 2010 Starter, this MS website might help you with that & it also covers how to reinstall it as well.

Ok. Was successful in uninstalling Microsoft Office Starter 2010, but the option shown in the reinstall step was not available to me. All I can get is what is in the attached (if I loaded it properly. Kinda new at this). Microsoft Office Starter Won't Open-microsoft-office-options.jpg
I guess now that it is uninstalled and can't be reinstalled looks like my only option is to purchase Microsoft Office. Bummer.

Have you tried contacting HP as Office Starter 2010 was installed by them as original equipment & presumably included in your purchase price.

If this is doesn't resolve the issue, as there have been a lot of upgrades & changes over time & Windows 7 & Office 2010 have now been superseded by later programs & support for earlier ones have expired, you may have to purchase a later version of Office.

The current versions of Office is 2016 & Office 365. Office 2016 is available in a number of versions so Google Office 2016 & browse through the options. Office 365 is as far as I know a subscription version, where you pay a fee each month depending on which version you opt for.

Your existing files you have made with Office 2010, should work with the later versions.

You could of course look at other office type programs, which are mostly free, as a possible option.

Good idea. I'll see what HP has to say. Stay tuned.
