Outlook 2010 pst import export fails

Operating Windows 7 Professional 32 bit
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010

I can no longer export or import pst files.

Export error:
The operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error, restart Outlook.

Import error:
The operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error, if the problem persists, restart Outlook.

I have run the repair utility through the control panel with no effect on the problem.

Have not been able to find a Windows 7 repair tool that says it will fix any office bugs.

I have not been able to find any other threads/posts that reflect this issue. If I missed it, my apologies.

Hi, F1Phantom welcome to the Forum.

Where is the .pst file that you want to import from or export to located?. Is this Outlook 2010 the only version of Outlook you have on your computer?.

I did not notice that the banner across the top of the Outlook window stated "unregistered copy". How the program became unregistered I do not know as it has been on this same computer since 2010 when I bought the program from Staples. I tried to register it and it said I had an illegal copy. I called the Microsoft number given and they said their records show it is an illegal copy and there is nothing I can do. How can they sell you a program, let you use it for 8 years and then decide it is no legal software? I guess its their way to force office 365 sales.

I think what happened in your case is. Your copy of Office 2010 was the Professional Plus version & this version is sold to schools & other such institutions on a volume subscription basis so they can use it for students to download & use in the course of their tuition. When you leave school you then have no right to continue using it & doing so is a breach of the MS license agreement.

So to blame MS for this is a bit unfair.

This MS PDF might help you understand this.
