What version of Word are you using. Have you checked your Word Templates to make sure it is the correct one.

    Hi,

I have been using word 2003 for over a decade with no problems. Just use word for simple stuff as I'm not a typist and only use a personal home made letterhead template.

    Thanks for the response,

    Hi,

Thanks for the info about solving my normal.dot problem. Followed you links/direction, created new normal.dot & letterhead.dot.

QUESTION: Is it possible to copy/move normal.dot & letterhead.dot to a part of my HD that I backup daily, then point word to that templates folder and have word work with the new moved location?
    Regards,

You would only be able to save the actual documents to a folder for your daily back up, the Template itself would remain as part of Word itself.

When you have altered them you can save them in your documents folder & then just make necessary changes each time you want to & then save them, so you are just changing the same document & then saving it.

normal.dot is on C drive; word.docs are on E partition?

normal.dot is on C drive; 4-16 gb of WORK: word.docs & all work is on E partition? That 4-16 GB of WORK or parts of it can change several times a day.

I only backup E partition not C partition. Are you saying that if for some reason normal.dot an other ???.dot are on C in the App Data folder gets corrupted I can recover all of them by opening a word.doc on my E partition? Business is always changing & I need to be up & runing in minutes that's why I set my pc up this way.

    Thanks for the tips.

    regards,

The Normal.dot template can be saved to the E drive but Word needs to know where that Template is, so you will need to change Word options to where you have saved that normal working Template.

    created new normal.dot

    Hi,

Starting from scratch; I think I got it working correctly now. Even edited current menu bar, now all templates + normal dot are in the <templates> folder on the <E> partition.

    Regards & Thanks,
