ERROR 1326 when attempting to uninstall Office Pro 2003

I used MS Office Pro 2003 until it became unusable in 2016, and MS forced me to buy Office 2016.

I was trying to clean up my C: Drive today and noticed that Office 2003 was taking up 1.66 GB of space, which I would like to reclaim. So, I went to Control Panel, Programs and Features, and started cutting out the deadwood.

When I got to Office 2003, I kept getting the 1326 ERROR:

    Error Getting File Security: C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GetLastError:5

Any suggestions for curing this error would be greatly appreciated!

Hi YOGI, welcome to the Forum.

Have a look at these websites for a possible solution.

How To Fix Windows Error 1326

When you installed Office 2016 did you leave Office 2003 on the computer, if so, it's possible that some of the necessary files for Office 2003 have actually been deleted over time. Or you may have changed some passwords in the interim.

    Thank you Ranger4!

I need to make a good back-up and then I'll try that WinThruster Reg Cleaner.

I do not know anything about WinThruster Reg Cleaner, so if you use it it would have to be at your own risk. The Reg Cleaner that most members on the Forum use is the Ccleaner one & it can create a back up before running it. You can get the free version here:

Download CCleaner | Clean, optimize & tune up your PC, free!

Just check that it does not come with any extra unwanted software.

I'm sorry that It took me so long to respond to your suggestion, Ranger4! Please forgive me!

Since you recommended CCleaner, I guess that I'll give that one a try, when I finally get some spare time.

    Thank you so much, Ranger4!

EDIT: I never answered your question.

Yes, The Office 2016 was installed by a MS Tech (online) and he did so without uninstalling Office 2003.

    I'm sorry for the oversight.

Looks like you need to goto Microsoft and get the official Microsoft Office Uninstall Tool so that you can uninstall both copies of MS Office and then and only then reinstall a fresh copy of whichever version of office you want. There are certain programs that do not do well with having different versions of itself installed because they utilize the same resources...Office is one of them.
