plugin for win7 display webp image works but not in email attachments

Hi,
I have installed the plugin for viewing .webp images in windows explorer and can see them.

However I create an email with Microsoft Outlook 2010 , wish to attach images, and cannot find the images, folder shows jpg, tiff, sure I put the images in this folder, I use explorer and they are there, try again, cant see anything, as if files not there.

the webp plugin does not allow Microsoft Outlook 2010 to see them in the attachments browser.

also I now wonder the recipient might not see them either unless he has installed a plug in.
Recipients wont want to have to messabout with codecs.

all in all this webp situation is a real pain, thank you google.

even photoshop cant open them., I thought I could convert them to jpg.

yet another plug in needed for that as well., and another one to save as webp, as if I ever wish to, causing further problems for folks.

...update...the images had been put into a matching hierarchy of folders in a backup I never knew I had, and I was not looking there but in the primary location for them, they do show up. All that is left is to worry about if the recipient can view them, does win10 come ready to view, does Msoft updates fix such perhaps, certainly not fixed win7 this last few yrs.

.webp is a new image format and I don't think Windows 7 or 10 supports it natively without the hassle of installing something just to see that image format. I believe the program IrfanView can view them, but I'm not sure. If you want to make sure your recipient/s see the images without hassle, then it would be best to just use the jpg format. If the images require lossless image properties, then I believe gif is the way to go. If your images that you want to attach to an email are already in the .webp format, then you can try a online website with a Google search of '.webp to jpg.' Or use a program that will convert .webp to jpg. The only issue with using an online resource is that if the images are private that may not be the way to go. Which means you use a program on your computer to convert the images to a known standard like jpg or gif.

Just confirmed that I can open webp images in IrfanView. IrfanView is to images as VLC is to video. Both are pretty good at opening various formats. And in all the years I've used VLC I never once had an issue with video. Though, Blu-ray is a different matter.

If your images are private and you wish not to use an online image convertor, then use Irfanviwer to view the webp image, press the Print Screen button on the keyboard and paste that image in a photo editor, crop, manipulate the image and save as jpg.

thanks,
i dont have irfanview, before committing to it i will see if I can photoshop to open them,as its my normal editor. paint in win7 wont.
if Irfanview doesnt try to take over my pc and be the editor for all images I might try it, I have been around the world of PCs long enough to know such installs can go that way, although one normally gets offered the chance to tell it not to do so.

This webp thing is a real pain with progs not working with it.

I just upgraded a cataloging prog as it wouldnt see webp and now thats thrown an error so no better off, so webp is creating havoc at the moment.

seriously? Only 1 person here uses IrfanView to make own life easier? And nobody listens
Options -> Set file ass ociations -> Extensions -> here you have all rules to generate thumbnails to files in system

You can also use KLM Codec and MPC Classic pack to install thumbnail generator to system. FOR FREE! So stop using facebook and ads to tell you what to buy

I have never ever heard such stupidity as paying for corporate plugin to see free webp files .... Especially when world uses them for years. Look in HTML code - they are everywhere and you think that whole world has paid to gogle?

Especially when in IrfanView you can convert files to any desired format extension, and also perform semi advanced edits with effects. Simple tool and weights few mb
DBenz you have not even been on IrfanView main website or DL section. Because if you were then you will notice that author also delivers program in portable mode. With no file associated in ini file unless you do this.
