Windows 7: Office 97 breaks UAC

09 Feb 2010   #21

Windows 7 Pro

Ok. Iím one of those who do not need to move from Office 97. It worked for me during all of 98 and XP. Word gets a little use. Excel, I use for many projects and it does all I need. Donít need to do anything more. So I get a new computer with windows 7 Pro as Iím in to digital photos and HD video. Install XP mode and move most of my old XP and even 95-98 software over. 90% of my old software worked (in compatibly mode if needed). Even many of my old 98 games worked in compatibly mode.
Here is the only major problem (Iím a lousy speller). In Word 97, the spell checker will detect misspelled words but will not offer suggestions. Has anyone seen this problem and any ideas beyond buying Office 2003 Home? I read where 2007 excel runs poor compared to 2003.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Why is anyone using 13 year old software? I know some people might be forced to use Access 97 if the database was made in Access 97, but otherwise there is no need to use the Office 97 suite.

IE update that breaks a certain functionality of IE
I believe it is a certain update that is breaking something in IE. Perhaps an Active X control? Requests trickle in occasionally from users reporting their Business Portal has stopped working. The work-around is to open Microsoft Business Portal using IE 64bit. While doable, that is a bit of a...

You can't restore bookmarks. When you locate the restore file .json, Firefox crashes. It worked fine in 7068. It looks like MS is going backwards again.
