    outlook will no longer open

I originally posted this to another section , but because I now have a more serious problem I am cross posting here.

This was the original issue :
    .eml extentions

However since downloading and attempting to install the hotfix from MS outlook no longer opens at all. The fix did not install but closed with the message "the expected version of outlook was not found"

Outlook partially opens then comes the window "Cannot start Microsoft office outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window" and outlook closes. However , I have two user accounts set up on this laptop and on the other account outlook functions perfectly well.

If anyone can help it would be really appreciated as I don't think that a reinstall is going to fix this either

    Thank you

    from run, type: outlook.exe /s or /safe

    does it open now?

do you have the outlook icon under your start menu? can you access the properties of the outlook profile/account?

    Hi Brady ,
thanks for the quick response ...

    I tried it and a window opened with ;
"Cannot start Microsoft office outlook. The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using"

Yes I do have the icon on the start menu and yes I can access the properties .

    Hi, Welcome to SF,

    You could try this
    Start > Run > outlook /resetnavpane
    Then try to open

    Hope this helps

ok, lets try creating a new profile to "at least" get outlook back up.

[i know this is lazy copy/paste but I have a live issue]

Follow these steps to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box and then press ENTER:control panel
    3. If you are in Classic View, double-click Mail. The Mail Setup dialog box opens. Go to step 5.
    4. If you are in Category View, under Control Panel, click Switch to Classic View, and then double-click Mail. The Mail Setup dialog box opens.
    5. In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.
    6. On the General tab, under When starting Microsoft Office Outlook, use this profile, click Prompt for a profile to be used, and then click Add.
    7. In the Profile Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new e-mail profile, and then click OK.
    8. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box, click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
    9. Click the appropriate server type for your new e-mail account, and then click Next.
    10. Type your account information in the required boxes, and then click Next.
    11. Click Finish, and then click OK
