Install it again in the same directory as the old one was...and then afterwards it should unninstall without a prob.
I was at that point. I had installed Office 2010 to the last BETA it was 32 bit office. I had out look crash and had same error message. Only way I had to unisstall was a clean total new clean install. I tried 64 bit Office after clean install of RTM 64 bit it also crashed another clean install and Office 2007 installed. Sorry for bad news
This type of uninstall issue has been a problem with Office 2007 for some time. so much so that Microsoft has a specific help topic for the manual install
How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature
This may work for the 2010 version although if you have the click to run version - which uses virtualisation (check for a Q: virtual drive - this will not be of use.
If this is the case you may be able to find assistance on the Microsoft connect site for the technical preview. If it can save you from a re-install of the OS it will be worth the additional effort.
If you do not for some reason have access to the connect pages required - let me know and I will attempt to provide some assistance, although the information I can publish is limited.
I may be a little late to the party, but here's the fix:
The problem lies with a missing XML file from groove.
To fix it, copy the setup.xml from the groove folder of the installation source, and paste it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE14\Office Setup Controller\Groove.en-us\
Now run the uninstaller again
I've attached the x86 and x64 setup.xml's for your convinience, just unzip the .rar and copy the appropriate file
It's also a VERY good idea doing a full system backup before any major operation like installing major soft or beta soft. Personally I like acronis, but can do with ghost, paragon, etc.
Google for disk image progs, there are some freebies to I think. Pragon I believe has a personal stuff
you do not need the setup.xml file
go to control panel, add and remove programs
go to office 2010 and do not click uninstall, click change and choose to remove it.
then when office comes up click remove
Apparently there is a newer version of office 2010 beta. Should I uninstall the old one before installing the newer version?
