Like me, want to use Frontpage with Windows 7?

Hello,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate and have finally found that if you can get Frontpage 2003 and get it to update this version 11.8164.8221 SP3 it works fine. I have been use to using Frontpage 2002 with xp for years.

This is what I've found out to work. Get Frontpage 2003 to update to version 11.8164.8221 SP3.

Yes yes, of course you must have Frontpage extensions installed on your hosted site, that's a given must. We all know this.

A 7+ year old developement tool that was never really that good?

Do yourself a favor and get a copy of Expression Web 3.0 or Expression Studio 3.0... MS has for free if you are a student... www.dreamspark.com and it's also available through msdnaa!

Honestly FP2003 isnt even WC3 compliant, Expression Web is and it includes support for so much more than FP ever did! Get it and you wont be disappointed!

I like Frontpage and....

I like Frontpage, I've used it for many years. I'm use to it, its super easy and so I like it. Everyone has a opinion of course.

For those who are like me and like Frontpage and have or now wanting to go and use newer Windows 7, I wanted to offer help to those who wants to still use Frontpage.

Have a nice day.

I think you failed to understand my point. The pages FP2003 produces are not WC3 compliant. Much of todays web browsing is done from devices other than PC's, and FP doesnt produce pages that work on them.

It is not responsible web publishing using technologies that are 7 years old...

I'm so confused.... You know all your websites visitors??? If you know them all, why have a website? Why not give them a phone call, or drop a letter or a flyer in their mailbox?

Have you ever heard of Moore's Law? PC's and surrounding technologies increase at an astounding rate... they double every 18-24 months! Your using a 7 year old dev tool is like sending smoke signals instead of text messages! FP 2003 is dead!

Acquire new skills, stop using frames, learn css, learn tags, learn layers... get a compliant webpage/website dev tool! If you are scared of the learning curve it's much less since you know FP... but do it soon!

From your reasoning, shouldnt you be posting this on the Windows XP, or Windows 98 forums?

Because it is irresponsible web design. I'm not bursting his bubble... we have had this banter back and forth from the start.

Have you never heard of WC3 or Web 2.0??? To draw an analogy... it would be like a programmer using Visual Studio 2003 to create an app for Win7.

Would you install it???

What's wrong with Visual Studio 2003 -- it worked (and still works fine on an XP VM) years ago and even a dummy like me could use it easily.

However I do agree for accessing more modern technologies you do need software capable of performing newer tasks such as mobile web applications.

I doubt if you could for example write an app for a mobile phone with Visual Studio 2003.

Another example for instance is in the proof of Fermat's Last theorem.

This could could NEVER have actually been solved in Fermat's time -- most of the required mathematical techniques needed to solve this were only invented in the last 30 years or so.

Here's some nice light Bedtime reading for you.

Fermat's last theorem

I wasn't putting down VS2003, merely trying to make the point that as technology changes, so too must the software behind it. Standards like WC3 are there for a reason. Where would the computing world be without standards like 802.11x, 1394, 802.3x, etc?

As a part time web designer, I agree a lot has changed in the last few years. But we; as developers need to keep up with the times. Whether that be developing a website or an application. Case in point; VS2010 will include the best support ever for a developer to take advantage of today's multicore parallel processing. With the # of multicores out there today, it is irresponsible to not take advantage of all that power! Most developers do keep up with the latest tools thanks to programs like mdsn and technet, and I know many who are "Chomping at the bit" waiting for VS2010's release.

Web 2.0 has enabled every smart phone yielding web junkie out there the ability to surf, email, youtube, blog, and social network. As a webdesigner I feel obligated to create content that is compliant and accessible to all.

And as to the Fermat info... OMG! A seriously demented soul! I prefer Tesla or Volta... lol!
Inventor Nikola Tesla Biography <enjoy! lol!

Daryl, I just got a new computer with WIN7 and have been using Frontpage 2002 for all my websites. Now of course I'm worried I won't be able to use Frontpage, so am interested in Expression 3. I don't know HTML and what I liked about FP was the WYSIWYG when creating my pages. My question, does Expression have the same features since I don't know Html? I think I'm qualified to order the student program since I work for a school district. Thanks for any help!

E.W. uses a GUI yes, but it also does away with frames (non compliant) and uses divs instead, css, styles... its just better in every respect. BUt you will need to learn a few new tricks...

To the others whom felt offended by my statements on FP 2003... I used FP for years as well. It's old and outdated! And again at the pace technology for the web and web enabled devices moves... we as developers need to keep up.

Keep up or step aside as I always say!
:sarc:

Here's an excerpt from a MS doc regarding FP and EW:
FrontPage is being replaced by Microsoft Expression Web, a professional Web authoring tool with features that help you design, develop, and maintain exceptional standards-based Web sites. Expression Web’s interface is similar to FrontPage, making it easier for FrontPage users to transition to Expression Web, but Expression Web comes with many new, different tools—and the ability to customize the interface layout—to help Web designers and developers work more efficiently.
FrontPage users who are interested in bringing their Web sites to higher levels of sophistication and standards compliancy will find Expression Web an invaluable tool for developing Web sites.

As I have been saying... notice words like standards and compliancy. That's the name of the game in Web Design today.

I use Frontpage 2003 and love it. Have used it for years. WC3? Web 2.0? Who cares? I use frames and tables to get things to look how I want and it all shows up fine in every browser and on my iPhone. Frontpage is what I’ll keep using. I did give Expression Web a shot, but stopped using it because it didn’t have that cute little kitty office assistant. I love that little kitty and demand Microsoft brings him back! Of course all I do with him is pick him up with the cursor and shake him now and then, but that’s an amusing little break. I need the latest Office tools for my business, and they killed the office assistant in there, so I can only get my kitty fix in Frontpage; but Frontpage works great for me in all of its out-of-date, law breaking, rule breaking form. Until the WC3 police or the Web 2.0 army forces me to switch, I’ll keep using Frontpage, even if only for the little kitty.
