forced to do multiple logins accessing Word remotely !

    Hi !
Strange behavior after converting from WindowsVista to Windows7
when trying to access a Word2007 document on a remote server

Added the "https;//xxx.yyy.zz" as a trusted adress within IE8
Now, before access is permitted i have to do 4 extra useridentifications
then word will start and I can wiew the document ???????????

Earlier when Using Vista = no problems

Found an article MS KB943980 You are prompted to enter your credentials when you access an FQDN site by using a Windows Vista-based client computer that has no proxy configured but
its for Vista. The "hotfix" wont install (not for this version of Windows)

even more strange is that, if i click "cancel" and not "OK" at the first extra login
there will be only 1 extra login ( not 4 ) before I can watch the document

and at last, when using "Firefox" theres no problems at all, worddocument shows directly.

    anyone noticed this behavior ?

    Tommy

PS! Maybe this question should be in another forum ( clientsecurity, internet ?? )

    Hello Tommy Welcome to SF,

I guess you could disable that feature not 100% sure but worth a try.

In your IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Custom Level

Under there scroll toward the end you would find an option "Automatic Logon with current Username and Password" select that and so the same for Trusted site as well.

    Tommy,

If its external then you have the same option instead of Intranet select Internet

    Good Luck,

    Captain !
Forget to mention, this is the actual scenario:

    IE8
    login to https-server
    idenficatation =? OK
    requests the word-document
word starting up (on my Win7 client)
its Word asking for username, and password (4 times )
dont recognize "remenber password" (blank again at next login)

after 5:th time , word dokument is shown

    hope this info worth something

a little bit more background info
this is what i did to try to be as sure as possible that its an Win7 + IE8 + MSoff2007 problem

Clean new Windows and MSOff2007 installations made for each of the tests
Common for all tests is that https://xxx.yyy.zz specified as "Safe places" in InternetExplorer

    WindowsXP + MS-Off2003 + IE7/IE8 = works OK
    WindowsXP + MS-Off2007 + IE7/IE8= works OK
    Windows VistaX86 + MS-Off2003 + IE8 = works OK
    Windows VistaX86 + MS-Off2007 + IE8 = works OK
    Windows7 + MS-Off2007 + IE8 = 4 extra user validation (totaly 5) for each Word-doc to be shown, then OK

Temporary fix: do "cancel " and not "OK" in the first extra validation, then it works OK ???????????????
Temporary fix2: use "Firefox" and everything works OK

Note: The registry adding info ( as in MS943280 ) not made within Vista-environment, but still OK

    Hi again !

This morning I realized that 1 testenvironment was missing !

    Windows7 + MSoff2003 + IE8 was not tested

    uninstalled MSoff2007 and installed MSoff2003

tested it, and IT WORKS !
so now I am even more convinced that it is an MSoff2007 problem and only within Windows7-environment

dont think its an IE8-problem (but still maybe a combination) !?!?

Decided to do a last test regarding this problem.
Downloaded "MS Office 2010 Beta" deinstalled MSoff2007 and installed the Beta-version

And IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM
No problems with asking for multiple logins, showing the Office-document right away.

    Conclusion (mine)
There is a problem with MSoff2007 and remote accessing document with https://xxx.yyy.zz when using Windows7 !

    What to do ?
Continuing using MSoff2007 and hit "Cancel" not "OK" at the first signon ?
    Waiting for MSoff2010 ?
    Report problem to MS ?
Use "Firefox" or "Opera" and not "IE8" ?

    Any suggestion ?
