Win 7
2007 office for XP office

I bought my computer with Win 7 and noticed it had 2007 office installed, however for a short time. I was having problems with 2007 so I installed XP office and it worked fine with the xp. But for some reason it would convert back to the 2007. I want to get rid of the 2007 office and install XP office. Is it as simple as going to the control panel and deleting it or am I in for trouble? Also if I delete it will it delete my excel files?

First of all, with software, you don't *delete* it, you uninstall it. Just so you know, because software is *usually* a collection of files, and deleting it is a bad thing to do, b/c there are also registry entries you need worry about.

Secondly, Office 2007 by default saves files in a different format that is not easily usable by older versions of Office. Before you uninstall Office 2007, you should open *every* document you have and convert it to Office 97-2003 format (IOW, Word documents should be saved as Word 97-2003 format, Excel documents should be saved as Excel 97-2003 format, etc). An easy way to figure out which documents need to have this done to is to find all documents with the letter "X" as the last letter of the extension (Word documents were traditionally {filename}.doc, but in 2007 it became {filename}.docx. If you do not have file extensions showing, then you'll be harder pressed to find them easily, but in Explorer you can sort by *type* to find them pretty easily. This applies to Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

If you never actually used Office 2007 to create documents, then, yes, you can uninstall it (from Control Panel --> Programs and Features) and then install Office XP *again* and continue to use it.

may I ask why you want to uninstall Office 2007?
