    Office 2010 Quirk?

Downloaded from Tech-Net and created cd on 5/26, Obtained key at same time. Had many problems installing but finallly succeded in a successful install. Now I have one small problem. Outlook -- If I click the file tab to gain access to options the Program gives the warning window saying Outlook has stopped working and proceeds to shut it down and restart it. None of the other modules in the suite has this behavior. I can find no other problem with outlook. It's as if I dont have permission to view the file screen. What am I to make of this?

What kind of problems did you have with the install? I'm thinking maybe a reinstall of Office to see if you still get the same errors. I installed Office 2010 recently on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and didn't have any errors so I'm guessing it has something to do with your personal setup.

    Install

The problems I had withThe install were related to having a prior version of the 2020 Beta. One other problem was permissions. The install could not write until I set the permissions on Program data folder. It gave me an error relating to that folder. I corrected that and then it Proceded on and failed at the very last. On a hunch I set the permissions on the start menu folder and the next attempt was successful. I wonder about a reinstall over top of the version I now have installed. It is a real bummer trying to uninstall Office. Oh I tried the repair and it did not correct the aforementioned quirk.

I've read of others having issues with uninstalling the beta but looks like that will be necessary at least from some of the sites I've been reading. See if this link helps...

    Office 2010 RTM

Erica, I havel already been the 2010 Beta uninstall route. It is done, gone, Kaput. What I have installed now is 2010 RTM from Tech-Net. I am wondering if I have to reinstall do I need to uninstall 2010 RTM or can I reinstall over top of it.

Play it 'safe' and uninstall the RTM version before doing a 'fresh' installation again.

The uninstall/reinstall process may be enough to reset the errant setting that is causing the issue.

Office (beta or full) has a nasty habit of leaving entries 'everywhere'.

(As evidenced by continual problems even after using the Beta removal tool)

    Reinstall

OK, smarteyeball, I took your advice and uninstalled Office 2010 RTM before reinstalling it. The reinstall fixed the problem. I haven't discovered any problems so far. One thing I find of note is after running all of the uninstall files and cleaning with CCleaner etc. Office comes up with my mail accounts configured and some of the options that I had set. If a person really and truly wanted to get Office deleted from his computer, I would reccomend dynamite.
