Office 2010 and Save As to Skydrive Problem

I am having a little trouble with Office 2010 and saving to SkyDrive.

Basically I can't. I click on the backstage/Save and Send/Save to Web. The my Skydrive is signed in and I can see my folders.

Then I click on the Save As button and Word or Excel fall into "not responding" hole for a few minutes and then I get an error box saying Word cannot save to blah.blah.live.docs.com/blah.blah/word.docs/blah.blah.blah.

Trouble is if I create a document in the web apps and save to skydrive and then click on the edit in Word button, Word opens up, I do a bit of writing, then clicking Save, saves it back to Skydrive.

So why not when I start the file in word and try and save as?

As an alternative means of accessing your Sky drive try using Gladinet (GLADINET - Bringing the Cloud Closer to You).

    See if that works.

Anyone know how to solve my problem?

Well bugger me. I have had this problem since the Beta. I have asked on several forums and thought, seeing as no-one had an answer - not even the mighty Google, I would ask on Neowin.

But as soon as I did, I had a thought. Maybe there is a Service that is stopping this crap from saving to Skydrive. So I had a look and WebClient caught my eye.

WebClient... Enables Windows-based programs to create, access, and modify Internet-based files. If this service is stopped, these functions will not be available. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

It was disabled so I started it. Sure enough Office 2010 now saves to Skydrive. Yay.

Can't believe I solved it all by my lonesome. Anyway enough gloating, I hope anyone else having the same problem gets help from this.

I'm glad you fixed it, I'll mark this thread solved.

    Hey,

I've got the same problem, but enabling the web client doesn't fix it. It still just asks for the login repeatedly.

Anyone else have ideas, or share MY PAIN?

Also I'd say that makes this thread not solved.

I have this exact same problem even after having tried tuckeratlarge's solution. On another laptop at home almost the same thing happens, but after 5-10 minutes of not responding (I cooked a pizza during that period!) it succeeded to open the save-as dialog box with the proper network path indicated. Regardless, i want mine to work.

I you do then please start a new thread. This way people will reply. Bumping threads is discouraged on this forum and hijacking even more so.
