    xps files?

    Hi
I hope this is the right place to post this. Sorry if it is not. I have a copy of 2003 MS Publisher, and it is running on Windows 7. (New laptop computer) . In order to print the Pub. file that I wrote on the new (laptop) computer, I have to transfer it to my PC computer with Win XP. I transferred it OK, but it won't print. Instead Win 7 converted the PUB file to an XPS file, and now I don't know how to print out my Pub document. Is there a way to change the file to an ordinary Pub file that I can print out with no hoops to jump through?

(BTW, my new computer is a Acer laptop and it is not compatible with my older Epson 820 printer. That is why I have to print out on my PC with XP on it.)

    Thanks. Hope this is clear.

On XP when in Publisher, hit file->Save As.

At the bottom of the new Window it should ask you what you would like to save the file as in a drop down menu. Make sure it is set to .PUB and not .XPS.

I don't have a copy of Publisher or XP to verify this but I believe this is how it's done.

Now copy it over and print it.

Thanks, that was the first thing I tried, but it doesn't work that way. I can open up a Pub document fine in XP, but when I click on Print icon, or Ctrl P or File>Print, the "Save As" box opens, and the only choice for "Save as Type" is .xps.

The Pub documents that I created in XP work fine when I print, but the ones created in Win 7 default to .xps files. At this point I would have to re-create the pub files in XP, which I'd rather not do.

Well, I want to report that the problem is solved. I'll have to eat a little crow on this one. Here's what the problem was:

When the Print window appeared, I automatically hit OK for the document to print, afterwhich the Save As window appeared with "Save As Type: XPS Document [*.xps]"

What I failed to notice was in the first window, the Print window. In "Name" there were two choices in the drop down box:
    -Microsoft XPS Document Writer
-Epson Stylus Photo 820 Series (my printer)

The MS XPS was chosen by default, and of course the document would not print unless I installed the software that would allow my printer to work with XPS. (or selected my own printer...)

When I selected my printer, then of course everything printed up fine.
So all's well that ends well. If I had any of you scratching your heads all day, then I am sorry.

Anyway, that's the story. Thanks, seven guru, for your help!

No problem, that's what I'm here to do :).

As you are new to the forum I thought you might like to know how to mark threads as solved as well as the uses of some of the other buttons.

To the top right of this post you will see 3 icons. An orange (+), a set of scales and a red and white warning triangle.

The orange (+) or blue (-) denotes whether a user is on or offline (orange = on, blue = off).

The scales are used to give rep points; click this button if someone has helped you significantly or solved your queries (only give this to posts that you think really deserve it).

The red and white warning triangle is used to denote either an abusive post OR to mark a thread as solved (just put solved in the box that comes up and the admins or moderators will mark it solved).

I'll mark this thread as solved this time.
