Outlook 2010 scroll as new messages arrive

Hello everyone. I was wondering if there is a way to make Outlook 2010 scroll as new messages are received? I upgraded from 2003, and in the older version the incoming messages pushed the older messages down on my screen. This made it easier to see when a new message arrived. Right now I find myself constantly using the scroll wheel on my mouse to see if a new message has arrived. Thanks!

Same problem... I used to be able to (Outlook 2007 and prior) just glance at the screen to see if I had new emails. In Outlook 2010, though, it's not doing that and I find that I have to scroll up just to check. It's frustrating thinking I have no new email and then scroll up and there are all my new messages that I didn't realize I had... very annoying. Now I am constantly scrolling up every 5 minutes just to check if there are new messages. Ridiculous.

I am also very annoyed with this problem. Not only is it completely annoying and seemingly minor problem. But it's also a very hard problem to try to search for a solution on. Has no one any fix for this?

I guess there is still no solution to this. I am going to roll back to Outlook 2007. The interface is a million times better and it doesn't have this lame usability issue.

You could switch to Unread Message Only view.

In Outlook 2003, go to the View menu, point to Arrange By, click on Current View and select Unread Messages in This Folder.

In Outlook 2007, go to the View menu, select to Current View and select Unread Messages in This Folder.

In Outlook 2010, go to the View tab. Click on Change View in the Current View group. Click on Manage Views. Click Copy and enter a name for the view, such as Unread Messages. Click OK. Click the Filter button and go to the More Choices tab. Select the Only Items That Are check box and choose Unread.

Click OK a few times to go back to the Inbox. Now you will need to go back to the View tab, click on Change View and choose your new, custom view.

Another option is to create an Unread Mail Search Folder.

In Outlook 2003 or 2007, go to the File menu, point to New and select Search Folder. Choose Unread Mail and click OK.

In Outlook 2010, go to the Folder tab and click on New Search Folder in the New group. Choose Unread Mail and click OK.

All you need to do now is go to the Search Folder any time you want to see your unread mail.

Personally, my unread messages always appear at the top of the in-box.
The messages are 'sorted' by date - see illustration below:

From the VIEW Menu on the ribbon, in the Arrangement section, select 'Date'.

    Not quite

Irene posts some very good information but it isn't quite the problem that I'm having. The messages are in my inbox (latest message at the top). The problem is that when new messages come in Outlook doesn't scroll up to always display the latest message. I have to manually scroll up to see if new messages have come in. Anyone have a way around this? I don't believe it is a filter issue.

It seems that there is no direct answer to this at present, except the walkaround procedures mentioned above. :)

    Agreed and Thank you

Thanks much for the workaround. While it is a minor bug in the scheme of things it is annoying. Hopefully MS will fix it in the near future.

I think I figured it out

I just got a new computer with win7 and office 2010 and noticed my outlook wasn't scrolling when receiving a new message. My bosses would come to me saying "did you get that email?" I would say huh? and have to scroll up to the top and say...stupid outlook!
I looked through all the settings, etc. Googling brought me here. I didn't want a work around, I wanted it to work like 2007 and every Outlook before that. So I kind of gave up. But today I came upon it by accident. Anyways, it's working for me now. Here's what you do:

    1. Go to your inbox

    2. On the scroll bar to the right of the messages, right click the scroll up arror. (a menu shows scroll here, top, bottom, page up, page down, scroll up, scroll down)

    3. Choose "scroll here"

    profit!

Just made an edit. You don't have to select top message. I also notice that every once in a while I have to repeat these steps. So not a full solution, but I'm not going to bang my head against the wall anymore.
