    Don't get any MP4 Thumbnails...

    Hey everyone!

I got a new laptop yesterday and so, now I have Windows Home Premium, 64-bit....

But I still have one problem with the thumbnails....

I installed the KMPlayer, ffdshow codecs, Haali Media Splitter (Matrovska) and the Divx Plus codecs to enhance the hd quality of the KmPlayer....

Every other video format works and his thumbnail works fine, like mkv, avi, wma, etc. just mp4 wont work, but I can play it, even with the windows media player.....

I already re-installed ffdshow tryouts, Haali Media Splitter and the Divx-Codecs but it still does not work......

Settings to show thumbails and not symbols, etc. are already activated, of course....

Can someone please help me? It really drives me nuts......

    So far,

    Therzad

What kind of MP4s do you have? Just showing a black box for a thumb?

Try running a disk clean up or Ccleaner and delete your current thumb and the try to regernerate them.

Gabest Splitter may work better for the MP4s.

I tried Divx at one point but it had playback issues with MP4 that had a x264 video stream and AC3 5.1 audio.

No thumbs at times or no sound on playback
I think its something to do with DIVX.

I just went back to Sharks pack, worked better for me. And all players work, even WMP12

I can play them in every player, eben WMP.....nor problems at all....and I don't get black thumbnails, I just get NO thumbnails, sadly ;(

Deleting all thumbnails and let them be recreated again did not work ...

    More ideas?

The only thing I can think of right off would be DivX itself.

Just to check, you can try to remove Divx. See if you can get it to generate thumbs then.

You can always re-install it if you want to use it.

By default, Win7 support MP4 and thumbnails for them.

So it must be something added thats over riding.

Although the DivX software is responsible for several playback issues, the lack of MP4 thumnails is not one of them. The Windows 7 OS can only thumb MP4's that are created exactly to the MP4 specification. Any deviation from the MP4 spec. and you will not get a thumbnail from the OS. The Shark007 Codecs do allow for proper MP4 thumbnailing along with thumbing of many other formats such as MKV and FLV. If the original poster is thinking to try Shark007 Codecs, be sure to uninstall ALL codec related installations 1st. (Haali, FFDshow, DivX etc)

Hm, I killed all the other codecs, re-estarted the pc, installed sharks codecs but still no change, even when I installed the x64 codecs later as an addition to the x68 codecs.....

EDIT: Yes, now it works! I started the x86 and the x64 Shark007 Codecs in admin mode and checked the "shark007 SUGGESTED settings" in both applications. And now, it works really well for me, thanks

    Problem solved ^_^

    Thx,
