    semi colons, genres, tags....PROBLEMS

    Hello,

I'm trying to update my music files' id3 tags and sorting/info in media player.

In media player, I changed an artist's genre from "Jazz - Blues" to "Jazz; Blues".

When I opened the files's properties in Explorer, under details/genre it still read "Jazz - Blues."

I tried again, this time changing another set of song's details/genre from "Jazz - Early" to "Jazz; Ragtime." In WMP, that set of songs still appears under the genre colun as "Jazz - Early."

Help!? Why won't WMP detect the change in id3 tag info if I edit it in the files' properties directly? Why won't WMP change the id3 tag info if I edit it in WMP? How can I get my files to have multiple genre tags instead of using hyphens?

WMP won't change the ID3 tags, as far as I know.

You need a program that can, such as MP3Tag.

Really? So it will save star ratings in id3 tags...and it will rename, move, and create/delete folders for files...but it won't change id3 tags?

And, moreover, WMP won't detect changes to id3 tags?

    wtf....?

As far as I know, WMP uses its own special tags. That's how you can tag .wav and .wma files just the same. ID3 tags are for MP3 only.

Why is WMP not saving the tags? I don't know.

Weird. Since genre is a pretty universal property you'd think WMP would read/write it. Funky. Idk, maybe editing there's just a weird delay. I'll check later I suppose.....otherwise, 3rd party apps baby!
