    playing media files problem

    Hi

I just installed windows 7, it's a great OS, however, I have now a problem in playing my media files specially HD contents (MKV files 720P, and 1080).

They were playing fine in my Windows XP, but in Windows 7, performance on those file is not good, they are a little bit slow, and most of the time having an AV sync problems.

I installed all the required codec, but I feel that windows 7 is heavy and needs to be tweaked in a certain way to improve the performance of the playback.

    any idea?

    thanks

    My PC is P4 3.0G
    2G RAM

    Welcome to the forum, kim

What codec did you install? I usually play those files through Media player classic but checked wmp today..it didn't work until I installed the Haali Media splitter (disabling Gabest and MPC's internal filter)
And now WMP plays Matroska files just fine. No sign of lagging or unsynchronized audio.
I don't know if there's a way to tweak a codec. I only know that there were changes made by Microsoft how Windows 7 handles the "Codec framework" which includes .mkv not being natively supported.

All you should need is Haali Splitter for MKV.

I use Sharks Codec, that way I can easily enable FFDshow decoding as well.

FFDshow or the DXVA has much better picture quality IMHO.
