That's the beauty of Raid 5! I did a Macrium Reflect Image Restoration from my Raid 0 storage drive this morning to go back to an earlier version of my computer security system and things went very well in that it restored in a record fast 4:35 minutes. Everything goes better with Raid in every way you use it.

Ditto this file structure

Everything has to be neat and tidy

I have several folders full of pictures that my daughter has sent me since moving to Italy. I think that the pictures from her visit to Menorca are particularly interesting...

You undersold me on DROBO!

I will be investing in a Drobo FS shortly for my Media Centre. It runs as a Hybrid Raid 5, with up to 5 hard drives (any size and make - must be SATA) and plugs into your router. It has a built in fan to keep the drives cool. It allows for up to 2 drive failures without losing any data. As it plugs into the router this will allow me, my Mrs and my step-son access 24/7 to all movies/tv series stored on the drives and also allow them to upload their own precious photos to it for secure storage. The Drobo FS is around 500-550 here in the UK, probably cheaper in the U.S. as it's usually the case!
Might be a lot, but for piece of mind this will be priceless to us.
Hello ukgovsucks,

You understated the benefits of the DROBO that I had completely forgotton about saving your post in my OneNote, until I went out and bought a 2TB External HD for $100. I regretted my purchase, and was trying to figure out backup solutions that would work with it. Then I remembered your post, searched my OneNote, and there it was!!! Thank you so much for the DROBO recommendation. It is a remarkable product that one must see to believe!

Take good care!

Lightroom is good for RAW files...

Hello there,

I am glad you are happy with Lightroom, I discovered that it was not as good as I thought that it would be. As advised, it should be used with Camera RAW files, which can utilize the enhancements it adds. For general JPG files, it is not so useful.

Just my experiences, but for me, the 64 bit Lightroom version 3 has been very useful and it's fast. I also have Elements but that program is so crippled compared to Lightroom. I use it for Jpeg and Nef's (raw). Both programs need lots of CPU horsepower if you have a lot of photos (70,000 in my case)
