Customizing wmp12 or choosing something different?

Windows media player 12 looks awesome, minimalistic and stylish, also pretty decent for touchscreens...

but the lack of customizable keyboard shortcuts makes it clunky...

I remember media player 6.4 in windows 2000 was wondeful.. then they went and screwed that up in all subsequent releases with chaning such wonderful thing as SPACE button for pause by changing to ctrl+p and such nonsense..

So media player classic was a godsend and i am now wondering if there's any such project for wmp12? I tried Gom media player which is pretty handy and customizable, I love that it auto adds all the tv episodes in the same folder to the playlist when i open a file but it looks so ugly and no aero...also subtitles are buggy with Gom

I can't stand VLC because i can't choose my own keyboard shortcuts to suit my own preferences... why can't i simply have the 1, 2, 3 an 4 keyboard buttons to change window size, it forces me to use alt+1 and so forth, not as handy, a minor gripe but there's no reason not to let me.

the newer media player classic home cinema is very nice but i would like aero and the playlist is too simplistic.

what other "wonderful" media players are there? i've never really given winamp a fair chance for video I guess i could if nothing better turns up.

Winamp is nothing but trouble, every second release reveals new fatal bugs just as the old ones are finally fixed. Forget it.

No offense, but you strike me as pretty lazy for not wanting to adapt to existing keyboard shortcuts, instead agreeing to change the whole software because of it

But it's alright, let's see what we can do

A quick search on SourceForge led me to this: WMP Keys - Microsoft© Windows Media Player Golbal Hot Keys Support

Yeah i'm lazy but i also believe software should be adaptable and customizable and not having to conform to things you don't like or that are LESS efficient then previous versions were..

winamp is another software i haven't found a really good touchscreen skin for, any recommendations good enough to replace a software i've been using for 13 years now?

I tried wmp keys but it really doesn't do much different than the standard config, I still can't choose whatever button i want. space didn't work so i chose "P" and then noticed while typing an url in forefox it also started messing with playing and pausing in wmp12...

i guess i have to conform... dammit.

This might not be what you want to hear, but you know, you can always buy a new, cheap keyboard with media features, such as: Media Keyboard 600 from Logitech. I own it and love it ^_^

Actually this reminds me... remember when vista was all the hype, and this sideshow function that never went anywhere? Well, what if i got a HTPC and and a remote control for windows media center, is there one with a built in lcd screen? i like flashy but practical tech =) since i don't own a windows mobile anymore I cant use that 0.01 alpha build of windows media player controller program.

Hmmm, I wouldn't know that, all I know that Windows 7 has a Tablet PC keyboard input in Start->All->Accessories->Tablet PC, maybe this works on touchscreens? I'm a bit old fashioned so I wouldn't know, lol ^^
