Windows 7: Cannot Burn Audio CD

I have tried multiple programs (see above). The files are not DRM protected in any way, they were burnable on my kids' computer, and the intermediate files are being written to my hard drive, I can see them being written to my temp directory. Since I can write data CDs, the wav file solution works, but it is a workaround, not a fix. Anyone know where CDburnerXP keeps it's log files?

After checking the cables, I decided to change them any way. Did not help. A few days ago I switched my swap file from my gaming drive (D: physical drive) back to my C: drive, so I switched it back. Still nothing. I think I am going to end up formatting...

Bookmarked also, and thank you! I sent the log off. 32mb log file from 1 burn attempt! 1.5mb zipped.

After more experimenting, it seems i cannot burn ANY CD media. No data, no music, no ISO, not as long as it is on CD media. DVD media works perfect and fast. I think that changes the issue a bit. I have attached the log file for CDBurnerXP (Starburn) here.

By the way, I am very appreciative of any and all help. Previous posts and future posts included.

Just a thought, the CD's you are using are compatible?

My DVD writer is: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N C109 (E (ATAPI) it is a SATA drive.
  • I can read CDs
  • I can read DVDs
  • I can burn DVDs
  • I CANNOT burn Audio CDS.
  • I have removed the drive in device manager and re-detected it.
  • I removed the upper and lower filter registry key, then removed the drive, then rebooted and it was reinstalled.
    (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318})
  • I checked the cables.
  • I do not have any SecureROM or other protection drivers in device manager.
  • I have Virtual Clone Drive 5.4.3.5 installed, but removed it, rebooted, no change, so I reinstalled it.
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Q6600 Quad core, 4GB Ram, 1,5 TB disk space in 2 drives.

I have tried CD BurnerXP, IMGburn, Ashampoo, and Windows Media Player. I also have Winamp Pro installed with the Sonic runtime. No services in service manager dealing with the drive.

The drive is good, or else it wouldn't read or burn anything else?

Please help. I back up all purchased CDs in case the kids decide to play Frisbee. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like a defective drive to me: I had a similar problem like this. Turned out to be a bad DVD-RW/CD-RW drive. These drives have 2 lasers in them to do the work and if one is not working correctly you will have this issue. I would change the drive that should fix it. -WS

Along with WindowStars suggestion, have you tried a different brand of CD?

It may simply be the particular brand the recorder does not like ... for whatever reason.

I never thought that there may be two lasers! I thought one laser wrote both CD and DVD. I have no idea how it works internally. Research time. This makes the most sense, so I ordered:

Asus DRW-24B1ST 24X Internal DVD Burner - DVDR 24X, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6X, DVDR (DL) 12X, DVD-RAM 12X, CD-R 48X, CD-RW 32X, SATA, 2MB, Black, OEM at TigerDirect.com

It should be here Monday or Tuesday. I will let you know. Thanks!

Also, thanks to everyone who replied. You have no idea how nice it is for someone my age to come to a forum and get actual help without the punks or trolls.

It might be to late to suggest but I didn't read where anyone had suggested you upgrade your firmware,
just a thought.
But I'm also inclined to believe it's the drive itself.

Will burn DVD+RW but not DVD+R, why?
Hi, Ive owned an LG GH24NS50 DVD burner for about six months. Recently I found that it is unable to burn DVD-R or DVD+R under Windows 7 Ultimate x64. It will burn a CD-R and curiously works fine with DVD+RW. I am updated to the latest XP-01 firmware. When I try to burn files to a non-rewritable...
