    Organising files/folders.

I make a new folder to keep the pictures together that I use on my blog for each month. It keeps things tidy. I now seem to have a mess in Windows 7.

My picture library has all my folders in alphabetical so I have them in the order April, August, Cover pics, July, June, March etc. Not good. I want them in the order through the year that they should be in starting with January. Why can't I put them where I want them? Why is such a simple action, always available before, no longer there? What is so hard about wanting to have your own system of looking at things like before?

As my photos are often taken at different times to when I blog I can't arrange them by date or month as given by Windows 7. What good would rating do? None whatsoever. And the same with Tag. I just want to know that the pictures I blogged with in January are in the January folder and it's there above February, just after December.

Am I asking for a miracle?

Hi Amoret and welcome to SF
That is just how an alpha sort works. Why don't you use that to your advantage?
How about staying in folder view and renaming those folders to
    01 January
    02 February
    .......
    12 December

    or even better
    01-2010
    02-2010
    ..........
    12-2010

because then you don't end up mixing the month of different years but get the whole "spiel" in chronological sequence (in case you plan to run that blog for more than a year that is :)

If that all still doesn't suite your needs, why not taking those blog pics out of the library altogether. and watch them "the old fashioned way"

Nope, you're not asking for a miracle. In addition to SledgeDG's excellent suggestions, here's some additional information that will allow you to undo auto-arranging and have free sorting:

Windows Explorer Auto Arrange - Disable - This tutorial disables auto-arranging in all folders except Libraries.
How to Enable or Disable Numerical Sorting in Windows Explorer
How to Change the Group By - Sort By - Stack By - Arrange By View in Windows 7 Explorer

PS: Free sorting is only possible in the following Views:
Extra Large Icons, Large Icons, Medium Icons, Small Icons, and Details, and NOT in the List, Extended Tiles, and Content Views.

Also, you can get rid of your Ratings and Tags column headings by just deleting them, using the following process:

In Windows Explorer, go to the folder for which you want to change the column headings. Right-click on the header and a menu will come up showing the current column headings, and some of the other popular column choices. Check the ones you want displayed and uncheck the ones you don't want. (i.e. UNcheck Ratings and Tags.)

For a complete list of ALL of the column title choices, click "More" at the bottom of the Menu, and you will get the full list, as well as options as to: in which order you want columns placed.
